This jacket is made from a coverlet, a style of woven bed cover popular in the 19th century. They were usually made from a combination of linen or cotton and wool with the pattern woven throughout. Certain weavers specialized in coverlet making and would have customers bring in wool and select a pattern for their blankets—then the weaver would produce the piece. Hand-mending throughout.
